Samsung is apparently planning to market the Galaxy S24 lineup as “AI phones.” Several signs point to this. The Exynos 2400 has a major boost to its AI performance, and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has a lot of focus on the AI aspect, too.
An advertisement on Samsung’s channel demonstrates high-res zoom using AI to crop anywhere into an image and get near-lossless quality. Several AI features are coming to the upcoming S24 lineup. Samsung could add some of these features to older models with One UI 6.1. However, some of them might need newer hardware.
The upcoming S24 lineup will also support a much better Generative AI and text-to-image conversion. The entire focus is very heavily on AI, and some of these features could let Samsung directly compete with Pixels.
Samsung is not focusing on using the latest hardware for the S24 lineup. They don’t have the latest standards when it comes to screens or even the best sensor sizes for the cameras. However, they’re focusing on making the software experience better with AI.
AI is mostly the buzzword for the Galaxy Unpacked event in January 2024. According to Galaxy Club, Samsung has registered the trademarks for the names AI Phone and AI Smartphone.Â
They’ve filed to get these trademarks, and there’s a good chance they won’t win them. However, this confirms Samsung’s intentions. They’re planning to launch their S24 series with plenty of AI features, rivaling the Pixels and competing on software instead of hardware.
Samsung has filed for other trademarks like Magic Pixel, Flex Magic, and Flex Magic Pixel. These are all probably for the upcoming Augmented Reality products, cameras, smartphone displays, etc.
Judging from the official announcement of Galaxy AI, Samsung is taking their upcoming phone’s software game very seriously. To stay competitive in this hardware-centric landscape, Samsung is taking a different route to increase its sales while maintaining good profit margins. Many analysts predict that the S24 lineup will sell very well, potentially even better than the S23 lineup. Live call translation is one of the upcoming features thanks to Galaxy AI.
