Samsung has a good lineup of smartwatches running Google’s WearOS, but they aren’t exactly affordable.
For example, the Galaxy Watch 6 series starts at $249 in the United States. The pricing is even higher in some other parts of the world. For example, it costs INR 30K (~$360) in India and EUR 269 (~$290) in Germany.
To alleviate the pricing concerns associated with the Galaxy Watch lineup, Samsung plans to finally bring an affordable variant within the FE series, aiming to bring the flagship experience to a more affordable price point.
As per a new leak by Android Headlines, Samsung is working on a Galaxy Watch FE that is scheduled for later this year. However, there’s a major catch: it is expected to be a rebranded version of the 2021 Galaxy Watch 4.
This information is further corroborated by the three leaked model numbers for the Watch FE, as follows:
- SM-R866U, for the US variant.
- SM-R866N, for the Korean variant.
- SM-R866F, for the global variant.
It has been noticed that these model numbers are very close to SM-R860F, which was the model number of the original Galaxy Watch 4. Hence, the Watch FE is expected to be a re-launch of the Watch 4.
Given these developments, it makes sense to revisit the specifications of the Galaxy Watch 4 from 2021. It has a 1.4-inch Super AMOLED display with 1.5 GB RAM and 16 GB internal storage and is powered by the Exynos W920 chipset. An aluminum frame, IP68 certification, and a 321 mAh battery further rounds out the first Galaxy Watch to run on WearOS.
Expect the new Galaxy Watch FE to launch with these same specifications for the most part, save for a few minor tweaks.
This smartwatch further expands the FE lineup, which added the Galaxy Buds FE last year and is rumored to get the Galaxy Z Fold FE and Galaxy Z Flip FE alongside the usual launch of the S24 FE.
