One UI 6.1 Tipped to be AI-Focused Update

With the AI boom in 2022, many companies are now implementing AI in their software. Apple invested a lot of resources into Generative AI, which could take shape in future iOS versions. This will make Siri a lot more useful. The current AI champions, Open AI and Google, also have their offerings. Google Assistant is now integrated with Google’s Bad AI for Pixels. Open AI is now collaborating with several smartphone companies to offer Chat GPT integration on smartphones.

To compete in the AI field, Samsung will soon roll out its own AI features to the upcoming One UI versions. One UI 6 brings useful changes, like redesigning the Quick Toggles page. You can easily access Quick Toggles with a simple swipe from the top right. There’s also wallpaper sync with Focus Modes and improvements to animations. The update also brings some new widgets. Overall, it doesn’t specify AI yet.

However, the One UI 6.1 could be a major update that adds several AI features to One UI. If you recall, new Samsung phones typically launch the “.1” software versions. The S23 was launched with One UI 5.1 out of the box, and it brought many new features along with it. At Samsung LSI Tech Day 2023, one of the key announcements is the Exynos 2400 SOC.

The Exynos 2400 apparently has up to 1470% faster AI performance. Samsung could use all this horsepower in the NPU to bring many AI features to the upcoming S24 lineup of phones. We assume that the entire focus of One UI 6.1 is AI. According to a famous leaker, Ice Universe, One UI 6.1 will bring several AI features that make it Samsung’s biggest AI update ever, and it’ll bring a Virtual Assistant that is more useful than Bixby. Samsung might even market the upcoming S24 lineup as “AI phones,” meaning AI is the focus point with these smartphones.

Since the Exynos 2400 is getting a lot of improvements to AI, Samsung could include Generative AI as a part of the S24 lineup. However, it’s unclear whether the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, which they’ll use in other regions, will get these same features. We don’t know how the 8 Gen 3 stacks up against the Exynos 2400 in an AI test.

The Exynos 2400 apparently brings several improvements to the native text-to-image capabilities. Samsung will eventually roll out the One UI 6.1 update to its older phones. However, they could limit some AI features to the latest S24. This isn’t official information, despite the leaker’s past credibility.
