One UI 6 for Galaxy Tab S9 series expected to roll out in late November 2023

Samsung promises 4 years of major Android OS updates and 5 years of security updates for all of its flagship devices in 2023. The Tab S9 series came out this year in July, and it got significant upgrades from the Tab S8. The Galaxy S23 series got One UI 6 in the last week of October. We expect the Galaxy Tab S9 series (Tab S9, S9 Ultra, S9+, S9 FE, and S9 FE+) to get the One UI 6 update in the last week of November.

To recap, the biggest change was for the Tab S8 model. It has a much more efficient and powerful chipset. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 was notorious for thermal issues and lackluster efficiency. That’s because of the 4nm Samsung fabrication, but the 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy solves this problem.

The 4nm TSMC fabrication is much more efficient, and it has excellent performance. It controls thermals better as well. Apart from performance, another major improvement was the display. It went from quite an underwhelming TFT panel to a stunning and vibrant OLED panel with 120Hz and good brightness. The Tab S9+ is mostly just a size bump, and the Tab S9 Ultra is the largest model with a 120% DCIP3 display.

According to Samsung’s promise of software updates, the entire Tab S9 will get 4 years of major Android updates. If we look at the update schedule of the Galaxy Tab S8 series, the updates are frequent and on time. However, Samsung doesn’t guarantee consistent monthly security updates for the Tab S9 series. Many Samsung users on X are curious about when the Tab S9 will receive the update.

From Samsung’s official website, the Tab S9 series will get quarterly security updates. This means that your tablet will get security updates every 3 months or 4 times a year. This doesn’t include the major Android update, of course. According to Tarun Vats on X, the update is expected in late November as well.

Tab S9 update

In the last week of November, the Galaxy Tab S8 series got the Android 13 update. It was launched with Android 12 out of the box. Since the S8 got the update in November, we also expect the Galaxy Tab S9 series to get the update in the last week of November. Testing is currently underway, and we’ll get the stable Android 14 release in before the end of November. That’s when they’re aiming to update all their flagship devices to Android 14.

One UI 6 brings a slightly different design language. There’s a new Quick Toggles design and an easy-to-access Control Center if you swipe from the top right. You also get custom focus modes with wallpaper sync. There are also new widgets and improvements to animations. One UI 6 for tablets might have some new features that are exclusive to their tablets as well.
