Galaxy S25 Ultra prototype suggests more RAM, same storage

Samsung’s Ultra phones are one of the best phones released every year & this streak continues with the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

Not only does the S24 Ultra have the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy chip, but it also has strong gaming performance and a wide variety of storage options, including the UFS 4.0 type, starting at 256 GB and going up to as high as 1 TB.

However, the RAM capacity on Samsung’s flagships has been neglected for a while now, with prior models like the S22 Ultra and S23 Ultra even starting at a paltry 8 GB RAM on the base variants in some markets. The Galaxy S24 Ultra this year finally increased the RAM capacity to 12 GB, but no higher option is available.

Meanwhile, many of the biggest competitors, like the Vivo X100 Pro and the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, have globally available variants with 16 GB RAM, and the recently introduced Honor Magic 6 RSR is sold in a single 24 GB RAM option.

Fortunately, this is all set to change for Samsung with the Galaxy S25 Ultra next year since, according to a leak based on a phone prototype, the RAM capacity might go up.

According to the source (via @Sawyergalox on X/Twitter), it seems that the third prototype of the upcoming Galaxy S25 Ultra has variants with up to 16 GB of RAM. This is further complemented by the storage details, which are expected to stay the same as the S24 Ultra (256 GB, 512 GB, and 1 TB).

Hence, the rumored RAM/storage configurations for the Galaxy S25 Ultra are as follows:

  • 12 GB RAM/ 256 GB storage
  • 16 GB RAM/ 512 GB storage
  • 16 GB RAM/ 1 TB storage

However, as with all such leaks, the specifications of internal prototypes are changed as per requirements, so take this leak with a pinch of salt.

If this leak is true, it marks a much-needed throwback to the Galaxy S20 Ultra and S21 Ultra era, both of which had the highest RAM capacity at 16 GB before Samsung backtracked by giving a maximum of 12 GB RAM for the S22 Ultra, S23 Ultra, and S24 Ultra.

It will also help the company perform better against other flagships mentioned above.
