The company made an entry with foldable phones in 2019 with the Galaxy Fold design. And remains a top contender in the foldable design market. The company also won 80 awards recently at the iF Design Awards 2023Â for its innovative design. And its foldable design was also included in the list. No doubt it delivered premium quality phone.
Apart from the development work on design, Samsung also has a keen interest in developing its firmware. Samsung’s user interface One UI gets updates regularly to provide seamless interaction with the latest Android version. This article will discuss the expected timeline of the Galaxy Z Fold/Flip 3 phone’s next major update, One UI 6.
Update August 11:
Samsung has started rolling out the One UI 6 beta based on Android 14 for the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus, and Galaxy S23 Ultra. Users in the United States, Germany, and South Korea can now enroll in the beta program through the Samsung Members app.
The beta brings a refreshed Quick Settings interface, a new camera widget for choosing storage locations, and the ability to set wallpapers for different Modes and Routines—screenshots shared by Samsung preview the updated UI designs.
This initial beta launch allows users to test the new One UI 6 features before the official stable rollout. Samsung has not provided an estimated release timeline for the full public launch.
Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 will get Android 14-based One UI 6
Samsung’s third generation came with a seamless folding design and got a massive response in the market. These foldable phones unlock many features in the user’s hands. The company launched Galaxy Z Fold 3 & Z Flip 3 together in August 2021 with 5G connectivity.
Initially, they were rolled out with Android 11-based One UI 3.5 on top. Since then, it has received various major updates and security-related updates. Furthermore, the phones come into Samsung’s three-year update policy. So it is confirmed they have a few more life cycles to receive major updates. And the good news is the company’s new update policy gives an extra year boost to receive the update for these phones.
If we look at the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 update history, the time frame of these updates is interestingly similar. Currently, the phones are running on the Android 13-based One UI 5.1 version. Samsung released One UI 5.0 for Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 on November 2022. And they were soon moved to One UI 5.1 recently on February 2023. Moreover, earlier in December 2021, Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 received the stable One UI 4.0 update.

Galaxy Z Flip 3’s main display is a 6.7-inch, FHD+ Dynamic, AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex Display. It gets a 2640 x 1080 pixel resolution with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. Its cover is a 1.9-inch Super AMOLED Display of 260 x 512-pixel resolution.
PROCESSOR, RAM & Storage: Both have a 5nm architect with 64-bit octa-core processors with a clock speed of 2.84GHz (Maximum Clock Speed) + 2.4GHz + 1.8GHz. Galaxy Z Fold 3 has 12 GB RAM and 256GB/512 GB Storage Capacity. Z Flip 3 has 8 GB RAM and 128GB/256 GB variant Storage Capacity.
CAMERA SETUP:Â Galaxy Z Fold 3 has a triple camera setup of 12MP Ultra Wide Camera,12MP Wide-angle Camera, and 12MP Telephoto Camera. It was also mounted with a 4 MP under-display camera. Moreover, Z Fold 3 also gets a 10 MP selfie camera on its cover display.
Whereas Z Flip 3 comes with a dual camera setup on the rear- 12MP Ultra Wide Camera and aËš12MP Wide-angle. It has a 10 MP Selfie camera on the front.
Battery: Both have excellent batteries for backup. Galaxy Z Fold 3 comes with a 25W fast charging 4400 mAh battery. Whereas Z Flip 3 gets a 15W fast charging 3300 mAh battery.
Overall, Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 become lighter compared to its earlier launch. Z Fold 3 drops weight from 282g to 271 g compared to Z Fold2. At the same time, Z Flip 3’s weight remains similar to the earlier version of Z Flip 5G.
