Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Leak Suggests Impressive Lightweight Design

Samsung has been the pioneer of the foldable phone and has led global sales in this category.

With the refined, productivity-focused foldable software One UI and its worldwide availability, Samsung’s foldables have always held a certain edge over the foldable competition regarding reliability, accessibility, and ease-of-use factors.

Unfortunately, Samsung’s foldables nowadays fall short on the hardware part. They are also bulkier and thicker than most of its foldable competitors since many have moved on to thinner, lighter chassis.

Fortunately, it has been reported by leaker @UniverseIce (via X/Twitter) that Galaxy Z Fold 6 will finally move to a lightweight design, putting it more in line with its Chinese competitors.

Lightweight Design

The tipster says that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will weigh in at 239 grams, which is 14 grams lighter than the Z Fold 5 (253 grams).

This new weight figure, if true, puts the Galaxy Z Fold 6 alongside the Voyager Black variant of the OnePlus Open, which is also the same 239 grams.

This makes the new Samsung foldable noticeably lightweight compared to the past.

This isn’t a surprise, given that Samsung has been making their foldable phones lighter over the past few years. The Z Fold 3 weighed 276 grams, the Z Fold 4 weighed 258 grams, and the current Galaxy Z Fold 5 weighed 253 grams.

However, the purported 239 grams of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 doesn’t make Samsung the lightweight foldable champion because it is still significantly heavier than some competitors.

For instance, the Honor Magic V2 weighs 231 grams, and the recently announced Vivo X Fold 3 Pro weighs 236 grams.

The current lightweight foldable champion is the Vivo X Fold 3, which weighs 219 grams, shockingly light for a book-style foldable.

Regardless, the new lightweight design of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is a welcome move, and it is great to see Samsung making their foldable hardware better.
