Galaxy A55 Specs Revealed: Cameras, Display, Battery, Chipset, and More

The Galaxy A54 successfully provided a balanced experience with respectable performance and a good set of cameras for the price. It’s one of the best-selling phones of 2023 and very popular for the 499$ price tag. The main complaint was the chipset, and that’s upgraded on the Galaxy A55. A new leak from Yogesh Brar on X details many specs about the upcoming Galaxy A55.

The Galaxy A55 packs a 6.5″ 120Hz 1080P AMOLED, which is pretty much the same as the A54. The new chipset is the Exynos 1480, which significantly improves performance over the Exynos 1380 on the Galaxy A54. The Exynos 1380 is comparable to the Snapdragon 778G.

It scores around 590,000 points on Antutu, and the Geekbench scores match the 778G, at 1000 for single-core and 2700 for multi-core. The one disappointing part of the A54 was that it ships with old and slow UFS 2.2 storage, and we hope the Exynos 1480 upgrades that to UFS 3.1.

The Exynos 1480, according to benchmark leaks, scores 1100 on the single-core Geekbench test and 3500 on the multi-core test. This is now comparable to the much better Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chip. It’s now a decent chipset for the 499$ price tag, arguably better than the Google Tensor G2. However, it still doesn’t match the 8 Gen 2 on phones like the OnePlus 12R or even the 8+ Gen 1 on the Nothing Phone (2). The chipset will remain a weakness of the Galaxy A55, but it’s an improvement.

The primary camera is apparently a 50MP sensor. We expect the same Samsung ISOCELL GN3 or GN5 sensor as the flagship S24. The A54 had a similarly sized 1/1.56″ 50MP sensor (Sony IMX766), and Samsung might reuse that. It had the S5K3L6 1/3.1″ ultrawide. The A55 will reportedly get a new 12MP ultrawide. The spec sheet says it’ll get a 32MP front camera. There were rumors of an AMD GPU on the Exynos 1480, and we had to wait for the launch for confirmation.

The phone will boot Android 14 (One UI 6) out of the box, and the frame has been upgraded to a metal frame. We don’t know whether it’ll get any Galaxy AI features. We’re unsure if Samsung might offer seven years of support for this phone. The battery is 5000mAh, with 25W charging support.

The Galaxy A54 was launched in March 2023. We’re nearly at the end of February 2024, so we expect the Galaxy A55 to launch in March 2024.
