Samsung is planning to introduce the new foldables (Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6) next month at the Galaxy Unpacked event, and while they are shaping up to be the most boring and iterative generation of the company’s foldables yet, there are a few surprises incoming,
It seems that Samsung’s surprises are being reserved for the upcoming Galaxy S25 series, with the Galaxy S25 Ultra rumored to get noticeable hardware upgrades over its predecessor.
One of the rumors pertains to the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s upgrades to the rear camera setup, with the ultrawide and 3x optical zoom lenses set to receive these improvements. And today, a new leak sheds specific details about the new camera sensors being used by Samsung.
According to the report by Twitter user Sperandio4Tech (via @ISAQUES81 on X/Twitter), it seems that Samsung is planning to use a variation of the popular ISOCELL JN1 sensor for the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s ultrawide lens.
Galaxy S25 Ultra – New Sensors Revealed
Although we still don’t know the names of the sensors at this stage, the Ultrawide will have a new version of the 1/2.76″ JN1 sensor, which is slightly smaller than the one in the S24 Ultra and has a higher resolution of 50MP, as we’veโฆ pic.twitter.com/LOyU9QJ9MT

To recall, the ISOCELL JN1 has a 50 MP resolution and a 1/2.76″ sensor size, and it is already used as an auxiliary lens on a wide range of 2024 flagships (like the ultrawide and telephoto lenses of the Xiaomi 14). It is a competent, tried-and-tested sensor that is easy to tune and doesn’t take up too much space; hence, it is ideal to be used as the Ultrawide lens on the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
The same source also details the much-awaited upgrade for the 3x telephoto lens, stating that it will get a new sensor with a 50 MP resolution and a sensor size of 1/3″, a significant improvement from the 10 MP 1/3.52″ sensor seen on the Galaxy S24 Ultra. This could fix the issues with noise control faced by users in low-light shots with the current 3x zoom lens solution on the S24 Ultra.
However, since the source’s authenticity remains unverified, all such leaks should be taken with a pinch of salt until we get any official confirmation or corroboration from multiple sources. Expect the Galaxy S25 series to be officially unveiled sometime in Q1 2025.
