Samsung is planning major changes for the 2024 foldable lineup, with the expectations of an Ultra variant of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 for the first time and the rumored new, more affordable FE versions.
Understandably, there hasn’t been much chatter about the Galaxy Z Flip 6 since it is turning out to be a very iterative upgrade to the Z Flip 5.
However, a new Vulkan benchmark listing on Geekbench’s official website finally sheds some light on the key specs of the Galaxy Z Flip 6, especially the chipset.
- First, the listing has the model number SM-F741U, which can be easily speculated as the model number of the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 6, as its predecessor Z Flip 5 had the SM-F731U model number.
- Secondly, the motherboard name isย pineapple,ย which is actually the code name for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, and looking at the 3.40 GHz peak clock speed, hence it is confirmed that the Z Flip 6 will have the overclocked 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy, the same as the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
- The third part is disappointing since the benchmark listing confirms that the Z Flip 6 will have just 8 GB of RAM, and this is, frankly speaking, quite insulting for a phone that costs as much as this, even if it is a clamshell foldable.
The fact that the Z Flip 6 will have just 8 GB RAM is further muddied by the fact that even Samsung’s own S24+ and S24 Ultra now start at a base of 12 GB of RAM.
However, it is to be noted that having 8 GB RAM on a clamshell foldable is pretty standard for now, with Samsung’s biggest competitors in this space, the OPPO Find N3 Flip and the Motorola RAZR+/40 Ultra, also starting at the same 8 GB of RAM.
Regardless, it could very well also be the case that the Z Flip 6 will start at 8 GB RAM, but there could also be a higher-end variant with 12 GB RAM. Expect the RAM to be the same LPDDR5X type as the Z Flip 5 and Galaxy S24 series.
We can expect the new clamshell foldable to come with 256 GB and 512 GB UFS 4.0 storage options, possibly a bigger battery capacity.
We can expect the Galaxy Z Flip 6 to debut alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 6 finally, the new Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra, and the amazingly innovative Galaxy Ring sometime in July 2024.
