Samsung to Integrate Generative AI Features into Bixby

According to a recent report by CNBC, Samsung will enhance its Bixby Voice Assistance Capability by infusing Generative AI. Speaking to a CNBC reporter last month, the Executive Vice President at SMB, Won-Joon Choi, shared the idea of equipping Bixby with LLM and Generative AI technology, expressing the potential needs for the Future.

With the emergence of generative AI and LLM (large language model) technology, I believe that we have to redefine the role of the Bixby, so that Bixby could be equipped with generative AI and become more smarter in the future,” Choi said, adding this will “enable a more natural conversation and to work out an interface that supports the Samsung products in our ecosystem.”

Regarding the Large Language Model (LLM), OpenAI’s ChatGPT & Gemini leads the technology. Samsung has started its Generative AI adventure through its Galaxy S24 series. Notably, the company already used the Bixby algorithm in some features as a bridge for Galaxy AI in the latest skin One UI 6.1.

Since the company has a good track record in improving the latest technology to the next level, Galaxy AI is the best example of this! The company introduced the Circle search, Live call translation feature, and many more such never-seen features to the Galaxy AI world. Therefore, more effort can be put into creating a wonderful, user-friendly Bixby Chatbot for Samsung fans.

Bixby is a core and only voice assistance support for a wide range of Samsung devices like smartphones, tablets, Galaxy Watch, books, TVs, and digital appliances (like refrigerators). Making a smart ecosystem for today’s generation. In the current scenario, Bixby can act as a Voice assistant like Siri or Google Assistance. Bixby Vision is another module that captures images and gets useful information. At the same time, Bixby Modes & Routine is also doing well in creating customized routines for specific work modes. With so many features already in hand, the module can be a great after-AI inclusion.

However, it’s not easy to view the current status of LLM that exists already in the market! In the report, Vice President Choi does not disclose detailed information. Also, the report didn’t indicate any exact timeframe for the AI feature inclusion to BIXBY. However, the company has put all its efforts and expertise into bringing the feature to the commercial market soon.

More or less, we can say Bixby has the potential to use built-in voice capabilities to have more natural conversations soon. It’s not an easy task to design a built-in AI Voice assistant for Smartphones. Any development in this regard will covered in Saminsider!
