Should you Wait for the Galaxy S25 Edge or Buy the Regular S25?

At Galaxy Unpacked, Samsung gave us an unexpected teaser of a new phone- the Galaxy S25 Edge. As per leaks, Samsung was planning to release an S25 “Slim” version. However, they seem to have renamed it to “S25 Edge.”

The phone isn’t coming out until at least April 2025. As per a leak from 9To5Google, an anonymous Samsung representative confirmed that the phone is launching in April. This matches earlier leaks, which say the phone will come out around May.

In case the representative’s information is incorrect, the phone may not launch until Galaxy Unpacked 2025, which is around June or July. It’s around the same time that the Fold and Flip come out.

Is it worth waiting for the S25 Edge, or should you get the S25 now?

While they target vastly different audiences, they have similar compromises in a few aspects. The Galaxy S25 is a compact phone. As a direct result, the battery size is rather small, and that leads to mediocre to below-average battery life.

We do not know the exact specifications of the phone, but since the S25 Edge is meant to be a phone with a slim form factor, we can assume the battery capacity isn’t that high (rumor has it that the phone may pack a 3900mAh battery). Both of these devices have a compromise in the battery. If battery life is your primary requirement, avoid both and buy the S25 Plus or Ultra models.

The S25 is a compact device at 6.2″ and is very one-hand friendly. It has a decent triple camera setup with the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. While the prices are not confirmed, the S25 Edge will definitely be a lot more expensive than the S25.

The only reason to wait for the Galaxy S25 Edge is if you are particularly looking for a Slim phone that easily fits in pockets or if you like phones that are extremely thin. There are only two cameras; one of them is the main, and the other could be the Ultrawide.

The S25 Edge is supposedly 6.4mm in thickness, which is marginally thinner than the already thin 7.2mm of the S25. Other sources quote “around 6mm” of thickness.

The design also differs from the usual Galaxy S lineup, with a dual camera setup to the left with a camera module. While a more concrete answer will come up around the time of launch, as of now, we do not see a point in waiting for the S25 Edge if you do not mind using a compact 6.2″ phone.
