Samsung’s Tri-Fold phone gets green signal with latest patent approval

There has been a lot of talk revolving around Samsung making a certain new kind of smartphone. The phone can be folded twice, which makes it into three segments.

It will be launched in the market by 2025. What is this all about? Samsung’s latest foldable models, like Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6, have shown very low sales volumes. But with this new triple-fold phone, Samsung might draw the attention of customers successfully.

A patent was granted to Samsung by the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on November 5, 2024. It was filed in 2021 and now it got the green light.

From these patents, we can determine what Samsung is thinking about. In the patent, Samsung stated that it plans to use an “open” and “layer” system to protect the screen when it is folded and unfolded.

Moreover, materials like stainless steel as well as a glass layer, are used to further enhance the sturdiness. A notable piece of information in a patent filing was an anti-reflective layer.

Samsung is not the first in the market for a Tri-Fold phone. Leading in this area with the world’s first tri-fold phone, Huawei came up with the Huawei Mate XT. The Mate XT can only be bought in China and it comes with a price tag of $2800.

Now, many are waiting for the release of Samsung’s tri-fold phone since it may be available globally.

It is expected that Samsung might launch with a lower price tag compared to Huaweiโ€™s Mate XT to stay ahead in the competition of Tri-Fold phone market.
