Bryan Ma, an IDC analyst, shared a slide from Samsung’s investor guide today. In the slide, under the “2025 Outlook” heading, it can be seen that Samsung has plans to expand and improve its Galaxy ecosystem.
For that, they are apparently going to launch their XR headset next year. For context, XR is the combination of AR (Augmented Reality) and VR (Virtual Reality). It is also commonly called Mixed Reality.
Samsung briefly mentioned the device earlier this year, for the first time, during the announcement of the Galaxy S24 series. It will likely go head-to-head with Apple’s Vision Pro XR headset.
About Samsung’s XR Headset
Codenamed “Moohan,” Samsung’s mixed reality XR headset has been in the talks for a while now. Just a few months ago, the timeline for its development was revealed. And today’s discovery aligns with that timeline.
Besides that, the tech giant has partnered with Qualcomm and Snapdragon to develop this product. It will possibly run on a version of Android specifically optimized for such kinds of devices, powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chip.
As for the displays, the rumor is that the device will use Micro OLED or OLEDoS panels. They will come with a high refresh rate, accompanied by multiple cameras.
While most sources align with the aforementioned details, some also claim that Samsung may launch XR glasses instead of a headset.
As of now, the details remain unclear. We will see how it goes as we approach the expected launch period.
