The Galaxy S20 FE is a fan edition variant of the S20 lineup and was introduced in 2020. It’s a mid-range smartphone with impressive features similar to the S20 series.

Galaxy S20 fan edition features a Snapdragon 865 processor (in some regions) or the Exynos 990 (in others), 6GB or 8GB of RAM, and a 45000 mAh power battery. Apart from the above, S20 FE is incredibly smooth, with a 120 Hz refresh rate, and runs on Android 10.

Galaxy S20 FE Update History

The Samsung S20 FE (Fan Edition) was released on September 2020 as a more affordable flagship phone with a Skin of One UI 2.5 based on the Android 10 version. Since then, the phone has received two major Android Updates within two years, which include Android 11 & Android 12. These updates enhanced the privacy and security features, improved UI design, and more.

Apart from the two major updates, Samsung receives regular security updates and bug fixes timely for S20 FE. And most recently, on November 2022, it received the third major update of One UI 5.0 firmware. It is a faster update in recent years, with the S20 FE receiving the Android 13 being unexpected.

With One UI 5.0, S20 FE revolutionized with new features such as more camera functions, new widgets, better Bixby routines, and accessibility improvements.

Most recently, in March 2023, Samsung released a security patch based on Android 13 and did not bring any new features.

Galaxy S20 FE One UI 6 (Android 14) Update Status

Samsung Promised the S20 lineup with three years of software support and regular updates and bug fixes since its release in 2020. Unfortunately, S20 FE, including all S20 Series, was not shortlisted under Samsung’s new Four-year update policy. Moreover, it fades up with all three major updates till now. Although it will continue to receive security patches for a while, it may be another year.

If you are an S20 FE user, do not worry; you will not miss out much with the latest update, One UI 6.0. One UI 6 is expected to be a minor update, including better navigation, predictive gesture, easily uninstallable bloatware, and better app cloning. However, these minor updates may not affect the overall user experience.

It’s still worth it, as the latest security update and bug fixes for S20 FE can improve your device’s performance and functionality.

Conclusion

We can conclude that Galaxy S20 Fan Edition has reached the end of its update cycle. It is unlikely that the device will receive the Android 14 base One UI 6 update and have to continue with the Android 13 One UI 5 firmware. Even though it is disappointing, but a common fact that every flagship phone has its limit. Overall S20 FE with Android 13 One UI 5 is a great device to stick with for another year.
