Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5, A53, and S21 Get November 2023 Security Update

Samsung promises four years of major Android updates for its flagship phones and monthly security patches for a select few. The S21 lineup and the Flip 5 are currently receiving monthly security updates. You can check whether your models will receive it on the official Samsung website. Enterprise models of the A53 will get monthly patches as well.

From 7th November, Samsung officially began rolling out the stable November security update to the Galaxy Z Flip 5, the Galaxy A53, and the S21 lineup in the USA. Samsung’s update schedule depends on the region, number of sales, carrier relations, and more. Other regions will receive the update soon. You may have to contact your carrier if you still didn’t get the update in the USA on your unit.

The build number for the November patch for the Galaxy A53 is A536USQS8CWJ8. It’s currently rolling for TMK CSC variants of the Galaxy A53. The Galaxy A53 isn’t the first device to get this patch. It was first released for the flagship Galaxy S21 series. All the Samsung phones that officially support the latest One UI version will get the November patch soon. The patch fixes 48 Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVEs) related to Android, 2 CVEs related to Samsung semiconductors, and 15 SVEs which are related to One UI.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5, their best Flip offering from 2023, also got the November security patch. It’s currently only available for carriers, but unlocked models will get the update soon. It’s a stability update that fixes bugs and brings some stability enhancements. It fixes the same number of vulnerabilities. The firmware number ends with AWJ7ย for the Galaxy Z Flip 5.

Finally, the S21 lineup from 2021 also gets the November security update. It’s impressive a 2-year-old phone still gets consistent monthly security updates. It’s publicly available for download in many European countries. It includes Switzerland, too. While it’s out as a public build in some regions, it’s still in Beta in some others.

It doesn’t contain new features or any changes; it just fixes common vulnerabilities and brings some stability improvements and bug fixes along the way. The firmware number for the base Galaxy S21 is G991BXXS9EWJO. The firmware number for the Galaxy S21 Plus is G996BXXS9EWJO, and it’sย G998BXXS9EWJOย for the Galaxy S21 Ultra.ย The update is around 265MB in size.

To update manually, open your Settings app and tap on the Software Updates tab. Tap on download and install, and wait for the update to finish.
