Samsung Galaxy S25 might get UWB support

Samsung is currently developing the Galaxy S25 series and is expected to release them in early 2025.

The new generation is expected to bring major changes to the Galaxy S25 Ultra, including a new 50-megapixel Ultrawide lens, rounded edges, camera lens design changes, and slimmer display Bezels.

However, one of the major changes this time is expected to be the chipset, which will be Qualcomm’s newest flagship SoC, the Snapdragon 8 Elite. This is a very capable chip, with custom Oryon cores clocked as high as 4.32 GHz.

However, there are deeper details within this chipset. For example, it supports Bluetooth v6.0 and, most importantly, built-in UWB support. The company has managed to fit Bluetooth V6.0, WiFi 7, and built-in UWB support directly into the Fast Connect 7900 system used on the Snapdragon 8 Elite.

With Qualcomm’s inclusion of the built-in UWB support on the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and recent rumors stating that the entire Galaxy S25 series (including the S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra) will be Snapdragon-only worldwide, it seems increasingly likely that due to this new chipset, the base Galaxy S25 (and S25+) will finally get UWB support.

UWB stands for Ultra-Wide Band, a technology that uses radio waves to transmit data and record location. This is the technology leveraged by smart trackers, such as Apple AirTag, Tiles, and Samsung’s own SmartTag.

Hence, adding UWB functionality will enhance the support of the entire Galaxy S25 series with Samsung SmartTag, enabling location detection over a wider distance.

Devices that do not have UWB generally have to resort to Bluetooth connectivity with such smart trackers, which isn’t as accurate. Hence, it is nice to see Samsung including UWB for the Galaxy S25 series.
