Patent Reveals Samsung’s Plan for Improving Haptic Feedback

A patent filed by Samsung reveals that the tech giant may be working on a system that will highly improve the haptic response of its smartphones.

Haptic feedback plays a crucial role in enhancing the experience of using a smartphone. This particular patent was filed by the company back in February last year but published by the US Patent and Trademark Office only this month (November 2024).

Precise and Focused Vibrations Using Multiple Motors

The patent talks about a system that will include a display panel and touch and pressure sensors. It will also consist of tiny vibration motors all around the edges of the display. These sensors and motors will help in providing precise and focused vibrations.

Improving Haptic Feedback

This will enable the device to vibrate only where the user interacts with the screen. With all of this, the goal is to make the user feel like they are pressing physical buttons. And that will ultimately add to the immersiveness of using Samsung smartphones, which already have some of the best haptic feedback in the industry.

If Samsung actually uses this technology, it will greatly improve the end user’s everyday experience of using their phones. Even basic things like playing a game or typing a document will become very immersive.

It will also allow Samsung to diversify features revolving around haptic feedback in upcoming One UI updates, which would eventually further enhance the user experience.
