Motion Clipper coming to older Samsung flagships

Samsung recently launched the Galaxy Z Fold 6 at its Unpacked event, and one of the new AI features it brings is a new Motion Clipper for photos within the first-party Samsung Gallery app.

This new feature allows us to separate objects from Motion Photos and use them to create custom animated stickers or GIFs to use in texting apps. It works by pressing and holding the specified object or person within any Motion Photo stored in the gallery of your Samsung phone, after which you can use various styles to create a sticker or GIF and save it to the Samsung Keyboard for later usage.

Currently, this feature is only available on the new foldables (Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6), leaving many users of older Samsung phones wondering if it will come to their devices.

Fortunately, a moderator in the Samsung Community has now confirmed that this feature will indeed be added to older Samsung flagship models via a software update. It has been stated that this feature will arrive via the One UI 6.1.1 update on the following devices:

  • Galaxy S24 series (S24, S24+ and S24 Ultra)
  • Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5
  • Galaxy Tab S9 series (Tab S9, Tab S9+ and Tab S9 Ultra)
  • Galaxy S23 series (S23 FE, S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra)
  • Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4
  • Galaxy Tab S8 series (Tab S8, Tab S8+ and Tab S8 Ultra)
  • Galaxy S22 series (S22, S22+ and S22 Ultra)

If you own any of the Samsung Galaxy devices listed above, you can look forward to the One UI 6.1.1 update in the near future, which will bring the much-awaited Motion Clipper feature to your Samsung phone or tablet.

While it is nice to see Samsung porting new features to two-year-old flagships, the exclusion of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 from the supported devices list seems weird since it got nearly the entire Galaxy AI suite with One UI 6.1 a few months ago.
