Samsung is the sales leader of the foldable market and has led various innovations in this space.
They have the major advantage of global availability and are usually well-rounded packages: durable hinges, reliable hardware, great optimized software, good enough cameras, and sorted battery endurance.
The current Z Fold 5 has a 4400 mAh battery, which supports 25W wired charging and 15W wireless charging. While the charging speeds have much to be desired, they have always delivered reliable battery life.
Initially, when the Z Fold 6 rumors started coming, it was said to get a slightly larger 4600 mAh battery. Unfortunately, this rumor has now been shot down.
According to the renowned tipster Ice Universe (via @UniverseIce on X/Twitter), it has now been confirmed that the Z Fold 6 will have the same 4400 mAh battery capacity as its predecessor.
This is disappointing as while the Z Fold 6 will most likely still deliver reliable battery life, it is far behind some of its competitors. For example, the Honor Magic V2 has a 5000 mAh battery, and the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro has a massive 5700 mAh battery.ย
It could be said that Samsung is trying to stay on the safer side. The Vivo and Honor use silicon-carbon batteries, which are very new and relatively untested compared to the older-generation Lithium-polymer batteries used by Samsung.
Hence, the company may be waiting for this technology to mature further before increasing the battery capacity of the Z Fold series in future iterations. Either that or it could simply be the company’s way of cutting costs.
In related developments, the Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 have recently passed through China’s 3C certification, revealing that both phones will support the same 25W wired charging as their predecessors. The 15W wireless charging feature is also expected to stay on.
