Samsung is all set to use its display expertise to tackle some challenges in its mobile division. Lately, several patents have come up for upcoming projects, including a tri-fold smartphone. Now, we have news about the potential launch timeline.
In a recent tweet, Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, said that Samsung will unveil the tri-fold smartphone in early 2026. That’s in contradiction to an earlier report that said Samsung would do so next year. According to that earlier report, Samsung’s display team had completed the parts for the tri-fold so that the device was almost ready to be launched.

Seeing how its latest foldable disappointed the fans, Samsung is looking to improve upon its offering. This need for something different seems to have encouraged the company to opt for more radical ideas like the tri-fold phone. While Huawei does have a tri-fold Mate X, it is only available in China, leaving an open playing field for Samsung in other parts of the world, particularly in regions such as the US.
Reports have it that the Samsung tri-fold would be unlike any “infolding” device in the market. Unlike the recently released Huawei Mate X, it would boast a double-fold screen when unfolded. This will be close to 9-10 inches when completely unfolded, some 2 inches larger than the current Galaxy Z Fold Special, currently the top-of-the-line foldable from Samsung in its home market.
This new foldable phone seems to be part of Samsung’s plan to stay ahead of competitors such as Huawei and Apple. By introducing a tri-fold device, Samsung will have differentiated its foldable lineup, which currently includes single-fold devices like the Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Fold.
It will be interesting to see if the tri-fold smartphone becomes one of Samsung’s key products in the near future.
