Galaxy S25 Series may use older M13 OLED panels, No display upgrades

One major issue with most 2025 flagship phones is the cost of the Snapdragon 8 Elite SOC. Samsung already postponed their 3X telephoto upgrade. Instead of the much anticipated 50MP 1/1.56″ or 1/2″ 3X sensor, it is sticking with the 1/3.55″ 10MP 3X telephoto.

However, cutting this cost wasn’t enough. To compensate further, they’re also not going to use the latest Samsung M14 OLED panels on the S25.

The entire S25 series, including the base and Plus, will still rely on one-generation older M13 OLED panels. These aren’t bad display panels, but the competition from Chinese manufacturers is fierce.

On the other hand, Apple designs its own chips with the help of TSMC, and the Bionic series costs Apple about half of the Qualcomm chips.

As per tipster Jukanlosreve on X, the sizes will remain very similar. It’s 6.16 inches for the base S25 version, 6.66 inches for the S25 Plus, and finally, the S25 Ultra will get a 6.86-inch panel.

In the replies, it was also mentioned that the costs of the Snapdragon 8 Elite were too high, to the point that Samsung could not afford to change the display panel to the new M14 materials.

Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, has also confirmed that the Galaxy S25 Ultra will go with the M13 OLED panel to keep costs down.

The current M13 panels are still good. However, they fall severely behind Chinese manufacturers in terms of PWM dimming for flicker-sensitive users. Unfortunately, it does not look like Samsung will improve these in the upcoming version either.
