Prominent leaker Chun Bhai recently shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) stating that the Galaxy S25 series is going to support seamless A/B system updates.
This will make the series Samsung’s first flagships to have this support. The reason why we mention “flagships” is that Samsung already has a smartphone with this feature โ the Galaxy A55, which they launched in March this year. Samsung’s flagship users will finally be able to enjoy it, too.
What are A/B (Seamless) Updates?
If it is unclear to you what this term means, think of it as a security check for your updates. Your system gets divided into two partitions, usually called Slot A and Slot B.
Android selects one of these slots at random to run your current system. The other slot gets updated to the new firmware.
Then, after you hit the restart button, there is a verification process for the updated slot to ensure that it is not faulty. If it passes that point, your smartphone boots into it.
This entire thing significantly reduces the time during which your device becomes unusable. It also prevents device failure by booting into the non-updated slot in case the updated one does not pass the security check.
This makes updating Android devices very reliable. For more details regarding A/B partitioning, you can check out Google’s official documentation.
